THE GTNF 2012 FIELD TRIP: INFORMATION. INSPIRATION. INTERACTION.

As with previous GTNF field trips, we can once again promise you the three vital ingredients that will make your GTNF 2012 excursion as memorable as it is useful.

We will be visiting several carefully selected destinations in and around Antwerp and Brussels over three days and two nights. Between these trips, there will be plenty of time for informal networking with colleagues old and new.
Buses taking us to and from our hotels and visit destinations are sponsored by BEST Sorting, known in the industry for advanced, innovative and complete solutions to any sorting challenge.
DAY 1 – MONDAY 11 JUNE
Tobacco, yesterday and today.
This morning, we are the guests of Gryson Tobacco Company – long-established leaders in premium hand-rolling tobacco – and the Vandermarliere family (owners of Gryson Tobacco and also J. Cortes cigars). You will be welcomed to the state-of-the-art Gryson plant in Wervik, about an hour outside Antwerp. In a guided tour around Gryson's production area, you can discover just how RYO tobacco takes on such magical new aromas; their leading pure, natural blends, as well as more exotic vanilla, strawberry, coffee and others.
Next, a short journey back in time to Wervik's tobacco museum, where you can review the sometimes turbulent, always fascinating history of civilization's most famous leaf and its enjoyment, from ancient pipes to iconic cigarette brands and packaging.
After that it will be time for a traditional Belgian bar/bistro lunch next to the museum. After which you can enjoy sniffing some of the many tobacco varieties and try rolling your own cigarettes.
After lunch, we are visiting the headquarters and plant of BEST Sorting to experience their renowned tobacco sorting facility. You will see firsthand how non tobacco-related materials (NTRMs) are hunted down and banished from tobacco products so that the consumer is not faced with unpleasant surprises.
BEST Sorting will generously host dinner this evening before we move on to the Radisson Blu Hotel in Brussels, where you will be staying for two nights–plenty of time to network and compare notes on the day's events.
DAY 2 – TUESDAY 12 JUNE
Join us at the heart of Europe
While in historic Brussels, we will be paying very special visits to some of Europe's greatest and most influential institutions. Brussels, of course, has a key legislative and political role to play in the future of tobacco in Europe. So during the course of the day we will be able to hear about and discuss key issues with experts. Further details will be released nearer the time of the trip, but rest assured it will be a fascinating and informative day.
In the spirit of global camaraderie of the GTNF, dinner in Brussels this evening is being sponsored by Ethnic Tobacco of India, one of the largest traders and manufacturers of Indian tobacco products.
DAY 3 – WEDNESDAY 13 JUNE
Belgian contrasts
Today, as guests of TAIGA International, specialists in the creation of tailor-made flavors and casings for all tobacco products, we set off on a journey of contrasts.
After an early lunch at Eet-Kafee Breendonk, featuring classic Belgian ingredients, we can offer you two options for your afternoon. Both will reflect important aspects of Belgium, both will inspire–you can make your own choice.
Option 1 – Tour of the Duvel Brewery
Tour the factory areas of this historic artisan brewery and see what goes into producing a range of fine beers, using the latest technology to preserve the oldest flavor traditions.
Option 2 – Visit to the Breendonk Memorial
The massive fort at Breendonk was converted to a German concentration camp during World War II. Breendonk stands as a powerful testament to the depths of human evil, but equally to the heights of hope, resistance and human courage. You cannot fail to be moved and inspired here.
We return to Antwerp in time to prepare for the evening reception and dinner sponsored by leading international provider of integrated supply chain solutions, Andromeda Forwarding. Again, there will be plenty of time for networking and anticipating the next two days of tobacco forums and workshops.
We have negotiated an all-inclusive price for this exciting trip that represents excellent value. Price includes 5-star accommodation, meals, excursions and transport, for just $980 per person. Space is limited, so book now to avoid missing out!
