Smokers almost in from the cold
Feb 8, 2010—Vancouver will make some provisions for smokers during the Winter Games that are due to start there on Friday, according to a Reuters story.
The city had planned a smoke-free Games but Olympic officials said that it could not impose its strict anti-smoking culture on visitors to the event, which is due to run until February 28.
"We need to be welcoming the world with open arms and not being too prescriptive with regulations and practices that we live by day to day," said Mayor Gregor Robertson.
While there will be no smoking inside indoor sports venues, smoking areas will be provided outside the arenas.
