Bulgaria seeks funds for anti-smuggling technology
Mar 8, 2010—Bulgaria has asked the World Bank for funds to buy equipment aimed at reducing cigarette smuggling into the country, according to a Novinite story.
This was announced recently by Finance Minister, Simeon Djankov, who said that the country’s tax revenue should start to rise this month following four months of decline.
In fact, cigarette revenue increased last year by 3.1 per cent to BGN1.77 billion, despite the fact that the consumption of licit cigarettes declined by 14 per cent.
