JT’s sales well down in April
Japan Tobacco Inc’s domestic cigarette sales volume during April, at 6.7 billion, was down by 30.2 per cent on that of April 2013, 9.6 billion, according to preliminary figures issued by the company today. The April 2013 figure was increased by 3.2 per cent on that of April 2012.
Volume during January-April 2014, at 37.1 billion, was up by 1.8 per cent on that of January-April 2013, 36.4 billion, which was down by 1.1 per cent on that of January-April 2012. (JT is in the process of changing its accounting year from April-March to January-December and this is the first time that, in presenting its monthly sales figures, it has given year-to-date figures calculated from January 1.)
JT’s market share stood at 59.1 per cent during April and at 61.0 per cent for the full year 2013.
JT’s domestic cigarette revenue during April, at ¥37.9 billion, was down by 28.5 per cent from its April 2013 revenue, ¥53.0 billion.
Revenue during January-April 2014, at ¥204.5 billion, was increased by 2.0 per cent on that of January-April 2013, ¥200.6 billion.
