Cambodian PM leading by example

The Prime Minister of Cambodia, Hun Sen, is trying to use his own success at giving up smoking to encourage other Cambodians to quit, according to a Voice of America story.

The long-serving leader announced in 2014 that he had quit the habit that he had picked up as a young soldier.

And he is now using Facebook to campaign for his followers and countrymen to give up smoking cigarettes.

In a recent post, at least part of which was in English, he said he was asking Cambodians, especially young people, to quit smoking.

He said he had been a heavy smoker for more than 40 years and had tried 12 times to quit. Finally, he said, he had quit smoking about 22 months ago.

“I hope Cambodian people can do it for their own health,” he added.
