Jakarta to expunge tobacco adverts
The Jakarta Legislative Council is planning to ban smoking in specified public places and to ban the display of tobacco products and tobacco brand names, including at points of sale, according to a story in The Jakarta Post.
Once the new law took effect, stores would be allowed to indicate that they sell cigarettes only by displaying a sign saying ‘Cigarettes are available here’.
The Jakarta administration had previously banned outdoor tobacco advertising and it is now expected that all tobacco advertising – both indoor and outdoor – will have been expunged from Indonesia’s capital city by the end of this year.
