Cigar pack up for award

The Camacho Cigar pack has been named as a finalist in the Pro Carton ECMA Award.

The brand is owned by Oettinger Davidoff but the pack has been entered as Camacho Cigar Packaging US Market by the carton producer PAWI Verpackungen.

The structural designer was Stephan Springer of PAWI Verpackungen, the graphic designer was Scott Birtwistle and the cartonboard manufacturer was Iggesund.

A Pro Carton press note said that the general idea of a cigar pack was one made of tin or wood.

But the Camacho pack was made of cartonboard, which offered numerous advantages, since, for instance, it saved on resources, was more environment-friendly, and was ‘amazingly lightweight, leading to considerable savings in logistics’.

The ‘masculine and reduced design’ featured only black and grey, and hinted strongly at ‘metal motorcycle elements’.

The award winners will be announced on September 15 at the ECMA Congress in Antibes/Juan-les-Pins, France.
