Fewer smokers in Philippines

The number of smokers aged 15 and above in the Philippines declined from 17 million, or 29.7 percent of the population, in 2009 to 15.9 million, or 23.8 percent, in 2015, according to the Global Adult Tobacco Survey-Philippines.

The rate of exposure to environmental tobacco smoke at home declined from 54 percent in 2009 to 34 percent in 2015, and in the workplace from 32 percent to 21 percent in the same period, while the exposure rate remained high in bars and nightclubs at 86 percent.
