Vote on display ban

The Israeli Knesset’s economic affairs committee has passed a measure that would ban the display of tobacco products at points of sale, including in duty-free shops, and restrict the promotion and advertising of tobacco products, reports Ha’aretz.
The bill has been sent to the full Knesset for approval.
Ahead of the vote, many Likud Knesset members opposed the proposal saying it would hurt convenience stores. Lawmakers are also considering a bill that would require plain packaging for cigarettes.
