 Industry mourns Wayne

Kirk Wayne, the former president of Tobacco Associates in the United States, has passed away.

“It is with great sadness to inform you of the passing of one of the industry’s true tobacco Greats,” said Hank Mozingo, current president of Tobacco Associates.

Wayne was at the organization for 47 years, including 38 as president. He retired in March 2017. During his time at Tobacco Associates, Wayne traveled extensively, promoting U.S. flue-cured Virginia leaf around the world on behalf of the organization’s farmer members.

“Kirk Wayne was not only my boss for 27 years; he was my teacher, my mentor, my colleague and my friend for most of my life,” said Mozingo. “Those who were fortunate to know Kirk well will remember his kindness, steady leadership, incredible sense of humor, lifelong service to U.S. flue-cured tobacco farmers and his loyalty and dedication to his lovely wife Linda. Kirk touched the lives of many, both here at home and abroad. He will be greatly missed.”
