BAT announces board appointment

Dr. Marion Helmes is due to join the Board of British American Tobacco as a non-executive director with effect from August 1.

In a note posted on its website, BAT said Helmes would bring significant financial expertise and operational experience gained at an international level.

‘During her extensive career, Dr. Helmes has worked in several CFO positions, including Celesio, Q-Cells and ThyssenKrupp Elevator Technology,’ the company said. ‘Dr. Helmes also sits on the audit committees for the three companies where she has non-executive director roles – NXP, ProSiebenSat.1 Media and Bilfinger.

‘Dr. Helmes is a German national and has spent her working life managing businesses across Europe, the Americas and Asia.’

“We are looking forward to welcoming Dr. Helmes to the Board of British American Tobacco,” said chairman, Richard Burrows. “Her financial expertise combined with the experience she can bring from other audit committees will further strengthen our company and our board.”
