Smoking gun license proposed

Professor Roger Magnusson, of the University of Sydney, wants the minimum legal age to buy tobacco products raised to 25, according to a story in the Adelaide Advertiser relayed by the TMA.

And he would like to see a licensing system introduced for smokers.

He said that making smokers sign up to a government-run register and requiring them to have a license would help prevent vulnerable people from taking up the habit.

“It’s just another way of checking someone’s entitlement to purchase,” Magnusson said.
