    New API headquarters

API will open its new customer design center and group headquarters near Manchester Airport in the U.K. this month.

With its global customer base and increasing focus on providing creative and design support services, API says it had become essential to provide the right environment for visiting brand owners and converters. The new API headquarters has been designed with a focus on its creative space—enabling effective interaction with customers and suppliers—as well as providing the ideally situated location.

The new headquarters are located directly next to Manchester Airport’s transport interchange and within minutes of the passenger terminals, meaning that international visitors will be able to walk from their plane to the new premises.

The new headquarters will cover 3,500 square feet, with its conference area and innovations room forming an integral part of the development. The API executive team will move from the current API Laminates manufacturing site at Poynton.

“With the increasing need for creative engagement throughout the supply chain it is essential for API to provide the right space and environment for our visitors,” said President and CEO Dino Kiriakopoulos.

“Our new location is the ideal creative and design location for growing our business and will ensure that API remains a global leader in the provision of brand enhancement solutions for consumer goods and printed media worldwide.”

API invests in foil and film

Brand enhancement specialist API has increased its holographic foil and film manufacturing capabilities after completing a recent £500,000 ($650,000) investment at its Livingston facility in Scotland.

The program followed the sale of its security holographic business in 2016 and was part of a large investment that has seen the Livingston site gain new capabilities in holographics and embossing, while also creating new jobs at the plant.

Completed ahead of schedule, Livingston is now the key holographic manufacturing site in Europe for API, providing packaging customers with world-leading decorative holographic foils and films from three separate coating lines and a seamless embosser.

“The addition of holography to our manufacturing has built naturally on our existing hot and cold foiling capabilities as well as broadening our product scope,” explains Colin Boyd, general manager at API Livingston. “This has enabled us to offer our customers a seamless transition during our development program and now provide an extended packaging product offer.”

Since the development, the Livingston site has also been focusing on lead-times and best practice in order to ensure it meets the demanding standards of quality and technical knowledge across its existing and new holographic products.

In addition, the increased capability has been an opportunity for the existing workforce to gain new skills, manufacturing foil and laminate products across the API portfolio.

“API has a world-class offering of laminates, foils and holographics for enhancing our customers’ brands and packaging,” said Dino Kiriakopoulos, CEO of the API Group. “The development of Livingston for the production of decorative holographic foils and films—all completed ahead of schedule—ensures  maximum synergies across our product range so that we can deliver the innovative packaging products our customers demand.”

Burhouse takes on the new role of commercial director at API Laminates’ site in Poynton, U.K. In his new position, Burhouse will be responsible for facilitating and deploying API’s brand enhancement commercial focus and supporting its newly formed creative development group in providing brand owners, printer converters and designers with new ideas in how to enhance their packaging, according to a press release.

“After meeting all the team at API I recognized that the company vision and commitment to develop the market opportunities for its brand enhancement products were exactly the next challenge that I was looking for in my career,” says Burhouse. “Joining API offers an exciting opportunity for me to use my industry and business development experience to help ensure the business grows further and I’m looking forward to ensuring API delivers for its customers and other stakeholders.”

  • API increases production capacity for Transmet laminate

API Laminates, a leading manufacturer and distributor of foils, laminates and holographics, has significantly increased production capacity for its Transmet laminate, following the recent upgrade and commissioning of its new Transmet module on the Laminator 4 production line at its Poynton manufacturing site.

Transmet is API’s film-free laminate option for paperboard that provides an all-over, print-receptive coating to the base material in a bright, metallic finish. The brightness and physical characteristics are suitable for use across all commonly used printing technologies, providing stand-out shelf impact and enhancement to a wide variety of branded products, according to the company.

“API has a track record of continuous investment in our capabilities to ensure we continue to offer the best products, quality and service to our customers,” says Dino Kiriakopoulos, API’s president and CEO. “Our Transmet product has been recognised as the market leader in Europe and its film-free finish provides brand owners with a fully recyclable material.”

The unique characteristics of API’s Laminator 4 ensure that Transmet laminates are manufactured to exceptionally high tolerance, a requirement demanded for print registration. It also is capable of producing a complete range of laminate finishes including Transmet holographic, enabling brands to select the laminate style and effect that adds unique visual impact to their product’s packaging.

“API offers a wealth of products and services to companies worldwide to enhance and protect their brands,” says Will Oldham, chief commercial officer at API. “The investment across all our foil, laminate and holographic sites ensures we can provide brand owners and printer converters with a complete range of solutions together with the service levels they demand and deserve.”
