Parkside has appointed Luke Clark as its new business development manager.

Boasting almost 20 years of experience working in sales roles within the packaging industry, Clark will focus on growing Parkside’s consumer goods and tobacco segments as the company looks to further enhance its plans across Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

“I am delighted to join Parkside to help drive our business forward,” said Clark in a statement. “We have a long-established reputation across the flexible packaging market for service and quality coupled with a broad and innovative product range meeting many of the ever-changing market demands and needs. The opportunity to help present these to customers is something I’m looking forward to.

“I have known Luke for over 10 years,” said Parkside Group Sales Director Paul McKeown. “I am aware of his background knowledge and his skill set in the flexible packaging sector. His ambition, energy and development plans match those of us here at Parkside. We are excited to see what Luke will achieve as he works with the Parkside team to bring our sustainable portfolio and market-leading technical capabilities to the market.”

Parkside is restructuring its management team.

The company has appointed Robert Adamson as chairman and Paula Birch as managing director. The flexible packaging innovator’s Asian operations will now be headed by Paul Vaughan, who has been made general manager of Parkside Asia, while Joshua Swann joins the board as technical director to lead on NPD and innovation.

Laura Haggerty will assume the role of BAT account director and head of client services, and Julia O’Loughlin will become group marketing manager.

Staci Bye has returned to a customer-facing role as sales account manager while Jonathan Steele is beginning a two-year secondment to the company’s Asian site to bolster its technical capabilities and support its growing business in the region.

“Thanks to the hard work and passion of the entire Parkside team, we bucked industry trends and enjoyed a hugely successful 2023,” said Birch in a statement. “Our business has grown significantly in recent years as demand for sustainable flexible packaging innovations continues to increase, and it’s important that our business capacity and capabilities grow along with it.

“This restructure will help us harness the momentum of our recent success so we can continue to deliver market-leading innovations and the best possible service to our customers across the world.”

Flexible packaging expert Parkside has reported strong year-on-year growth despite a challenging 12 months for the industry.

Reaping the rewards of significant recent investments made to its global operations, the company says it is on track to achieve its five-year objectives after reporting year-on-year growth of 28.1 percent, returning to pre-pandemic levels.

“With continued supply chain chaos, a lack of raw materials, labor shortages and a string of complex new laws hitting many national markets, we know times are tough for many in the packaging industry,” said Parkside Managing Director Robert Adamson. “Against that backdrop we remained resolute in our commitment to innovation, and we could not be happier with these results which show the company continues to go from strength to strength.”

In the face of ongoing global concerns, Parkside has significantly invested in both its U.K. and Asian capabilities.

The company’s most recent investments include an Allstein printing press and a Universal slitting machine in its Normanton, U.K. factory. The two machines improve the capacity, efficiency and energy consumption of the facility while ensuring its print quality standards remain ahead of the curve.

The company’s operations in Malaysia were also boosted by the recent appointments of Paula Birch as managing director of Asia, and Business Unit Manager Ian Dewar, who has formidable knowledge of the APAC market and the plastics industry.

“This growth would not be possible without the hard work, passion, and endless creativity of all our staff, who drive this company to new heights every day,” added Adamson. “So many long-serving team members have come along on this journey with us, and it is hugely rewarding to have seen the number of internal moves and promotions that we have this year, as we look to the future and explore new frontiers as a company.

“We are developing new business within the tobacco market, crafting exciting new marketing strategies, and with our new MD for Asia we continue to open up new geographic markets and product applications.”
